Security agencies are holding armed robbers suspected to be involved in a series of motorcycle robberies and murdering of people in Mukono and Wakiso districts.
The suspects identified as Lawrence Okello a resident of Namawojjolo, Anthony Ouma of Namuwongo and Grace Kahunde the custodian of suspected stolen motorcycles have been arrested and an SMG gun used in committing robberies and murdering innocent Ugandans recovered.
Their arrest was as a result of the recent murder of a boda rider identified as Wellaci Makumbi who was shot dead in Bweyogerere on Friday 30th November 2018 and his motorcycle Bajaj Boxer number UEN 922L robbed.
One of the suspects identified as Okello confessed before the security operatives to have been responsible for shooting Makumbi in the head while working under the orders of his leader Hassan who is still on the run.
Okello told the officers that he had met Hassan at one of the buildings along Kiseeka who befriended him and was introduced to a quick money making venture of carrying out high level motorcycle robbery missions.
He said that Hassan (still at large) brought an SMG gun in a bag and after using it to murder Makumbi Kito a resident of Kirinya, he told Okello to meet him in Namuwongo for his payment as he took off with the robbed motorcycle plus the gun.
Upon search at Grace Kahunde’s home, the officers recovered motorcycle belonging to the deceased and an SMG/AK47 gun hidden under a table in a bag.
The suspects are currently detained at Bweyogerere Police Station on charges of murder vide CRB 270/2018 contrary to section 188 and 189 of the Penal Code Act as investigations are still on going.
When contacted the spokesperson of police for Kampala metropolitan C/ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the arrest.
