300 Traffic police bosses Fired over Corruption
ASP LUYIMA TOPS THE LIST
SPY REPORTS has learnt that at least more than 300 traffic police officers across the Country have been fired from the Unit after evidence pinned them to have been involved in receiving bribes, extortion among others from the public.
Our reliable police sources revealed to us that the list of fired officers was forwarded to the Directorate of Human resource for the purpose of redeployment.
Among those who were sacked included AS Julius Luyima the former traffic boss for CPS Kamapala. Liyima was sacked from CPS after several complaints of corruption, bribery; extortion hipped in the office of Inspector General of Police (IGG).
Officer Luyima was later taken to Masindi where he repeated the same scandals that had to eventually lead to his sacking. Other officers are, Emmanuel Okum traffic commander for soroti, Toll Mukembo, in charge Lira, Denis Kiwanuka, Mbale, Joel Odong of Tororo, Richard Lwakirenzi of Mubende, Trude Nampiima of Kigezi, Namuga of Busoga, Patrick Nyeko of Mukono among others.
Our sources say the decision to fire 300 traffic officers came after President Museveni warned the Inspector General of Police to clean traffic. Sources added that after President Museveni appointed Martin Okoth Ochola as the new Police chief, he warned him to clean traffic.
“I have received several complaints from the public that there is high corruption in traffic especially on high ways so I don’t want to hear this any more,” a source quoted President Museveni telling Ochola in his first meeting at State house Entebbe.
A high ranking traffic officer revealed to us that Ochola later summoned Director of Traffic and road safety AIGP Dr Stephen Kasiima at his office in Nagura and ordered to clean traffic.
“Mr. Kasiima I want you to either clean traffic or you leave traffic, the President is annoyed with your traffic men,” Ochola was heard telling Dr Kasiima.
Close sources to Mr. Kasiima said after intensive grilling, Kasiima made a shocking and serious reshuffles in traffic and also formed alert squad to work on corrupt officers. The squad is headed by his blue eyed boy ASP Moses Mutabingwa.
We were also reliably informed that Dr. Kasiima directed Mutabingwa to compile the list of all senior police officers who have ever been implicated in corruption scandal. Sources say Mutabingwa compiled the report and submitted to his boss for final action.
When contacted Traffic spokesperson ACP Charles Ssebambulidde, he confirmed the sacking of traffic officers over corruption.
“It is true very many traffic officers who have been involved in corruption and bribery have been removed from the Unit but am not certain about the figure,” he said during a telephone interview.
