The opposition Democratic Party says that the current wave of criminality like Kidnap is brought about by the economic stress in country contrary to President Museveni’s assertation of population explosion which DP described as cynical and illogical.
DP party general president Norbert Mao addressing a weekly press conference at the party headquarters in Kampala said the current criminalities are caused by the inequitable economic policies that is filled with nepotism and favors the few who are highly connected.
Mao said that, many people are displaced from Mubende Naguru, Nakawa estates, Jobless graduates are the ones involved in criminality.
“ Those evicted by KCCA and other local authorities, the evicted fishermen, the Jobless and the 11 million crime preventers are the ones who are engaged in these kinds of crimes for survival”. Mao said.
He added that, the only solution to this is rethinking of the country’s economic policies with the goals of development that are equitable and bridge a gap of haves and have-nots.
“There is also need for land justice and have local owning up businesses since most prominent businesses are owned by foreigners”.
