Doris Akol the Executive Director Uganda’s tax body the Uganda Revenue Authority could soon join her predecessor Allen Kagina on a job hunt after the appointing authority declined to renew her contract and instead gave her only three months to pack her belongs and leave Nakawa based tax collection office.
The furious president who has since embarked on merging several government agencies with their mother ministries accuses Akol of failing hit the target and failing to supervise and nab thieves in custom department which has caused loss of billions of taxes through tax evasion.
According to sources from ministry of finance, Akol’s contract expired at the time when she is expecting to deriver her second child.
Sources say Akol applied for another 4 year contract but the president only gave her 3 month which surprised everyone.
“She was expecting 4 years but things turned against her. Now the new contract will expire in December this year. At the moment no one can tell but president is annoyed with her for failing to supervise customs department of URA which is a thieves’ Hub”. A source narrated.
Recently Museveni ordered minister of finance planning and economic development Matia Kashaija to chase away all heads of URA customs department and replace them without new people.
Efforts to obtain a comment from URA spokesperson Vincent Seruma were futile by press time.
