Senior police officer attached to Mbale was yesterday picked for soliciting a bribe of shs200, 000 shillings from a suspect he had arrested over the weekend.
ASP Tumusiime Williams Amon over the weekend illegally arrested a one Martin Khisi a resident of Namakwekwe Mbale town council and ordered him to pay 500,000 if he wanted to get back his freedom.
They reportedly negotiated up to 200,000 before the suspect’s relative rushed to professional standard unit (PSU) Mbale and reported a case.
Officers from PSU swung into action and rounded up Tumusiime from Sinamakosa gardens where he was waiting to receive his bribe.
He was arrested and is now being detained at Mbale CPS.
When we contacted PSU spokesperson SP Vincent Sekate confirmed that Tumusiime is in police custody.
“We have arrested one C/ASP Musiime Amon Williams the Oc Namakwekwe in Mbale for demanding and receiving shs.200, 000/- from Martin Khisi FROM Sinamakosa Gardens in Namakwekwe”. Sekate said.
