The one billion and 200m compensation cash from state house to music promoters who lost their dime when police stopped all music shows where Kyadondo East ,MP Hon Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine was destined to perform during Christmas season has made them draw swords with various groups vowing to beat off each other.
This follows a meeting between the president, Peace Regis Mutuuzo the Minister of State for Gender and Culture and the Uganda music promoters and venue owners network (UMP-NET) at Bunyangabo where UMP NET asked government to compensate members who lost their money.
During the meeting, the national coordinator of the organization ,Tony Ssempijja asked government to be kind to local promoters who had hired the musician turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine because the government had not banned his shows officially.
He explained how promoters had borrowed the said money and were bound to lose their properties to which the president consented and directed Mutuuzo to organize the refund.
Ssempijja told us how he presented about seven burning issues which gave headache to artists including a law in offing stopping them from singing at more than one show before four hours elapse.
He however warned that whoever hires Bobi Wine in future will have him to blame because he was mixing music and politics which cannot be allowed.
However trouble started when about 200m was released to some losers like Dick productions (50m) whose Gaba beach show was stopped, Micheal Banner (20m) lady Fifi of Makindye and others keeping the balance until a policy to manage the issue is put in place that some more aggressive promoters like Balam Barugahare , Abbey Musinguzi ( Abitex), Balunywa and Bajjo among others also picked interest and started courting Mutuuzo.
This has not gone down well with UMP NET members who accuse the later of trying to hijack their project and have sworn to fight them to death.
Ssempijja told this website that they will not allow greedy people to take over the project which has taken them a lot of time adding that other than the compensation, they agreed with the president and minster to do many things to promote musicians, promoters and every body in this industry including creating a SACCO but the new comers only target the said one billion balances.
UMP NET has now called a general meeting on Tuesday 29th at Tarvan woods for all musicians, promoters, venue owners, artist and bouncers to protract a war against the Balam group.
Some members have started collecting signatures to sack Mr. Andrew Benon Kibuuka for not consulting members.
Sempijja also asked the president to unite all bouncers for training and licensing their work and duties so as they can operate formally and officially, he also added that the bouncers needed a military background to accompany their big and muscular body sizes.
