The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has today warned government not to tamper with musicians while executing its duties.
The warning comes from the meeting the speaker held with members of the Association of Performing Artists of Uganda at Parliament.
Led by Mr. Andrew Benon Kibuuka the chairperson of the association, the team requested the speaker to task the Gender Ministry to consult the Association before starting any processes of enacting rules and regulations of the industry.
Kadaga further asked government to continuously work with musicians, to organize and fund workshops for entertainers and empower their SACCOs and other groups.
The speaker promised to arrange a meeting between the Association and the Parliamentary committee on Gender so that artists’ concerns are addressed during this open window period when Parliament is considering Budget Framework Papers from different Ministries.
