Prominent City Lawyer Paul Mugoya Wanyoto was today Charged at Buganda Road court and later remanded to Luzira Prison on charges of obtaining money by false Pretence.
He appeared before Buganda Road court Grade1 Magistrate Stella Amabilis. He will appear tomorrow for his bail application.
Wanyoto was arrested by police after information leaked that he robbed South Sudan Minister one Olwol shs700m in a fake gold deal.
Wanyoto was arrested on Monday night in a joint operation of Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and police after President Museveni ordered Deputy Director CID Elly Womanya to arrest him and be paraded before court.
According to Police file, Wanyoto is facing charges of robbery, Embzzlement and obtaining money by false pretence.
According to information obtained by spyreports, Wanyoto entered into a gold deal with South Sudan Minister and promised to give him 10kg of pure Gold and the pair agreed a fee of Shs 700m.
Sources who were part of the deal revealed to us that the Minister paid the first Installment of Shs 300m and promised to pay the balance shortly.
Sources added that Wanyoto took the Minister in Munyonyo where he claims to have his Laboratory. Sources say, Wanyoto parked fake gold in silver boxes and forged Uganda Revenue Documents.
Detectives told us that when the Minister reached at Airport, all what he called gold was proved fake and was also put under arrest. Security at Airport say after interrogation, the Minister revealed how he bought gold from Lawyer Wanyoto.
The Minister was later led to Aviation Police Entebbe where he recorded statement pinning Wanyoto.
Of Recently, President Museveni tasked CMI and Police to arrest and prosecute all fake gold dealers after he was informed that most investors had fled the Country after they were conned billions of shilling in fake gold scams.
President further formed a special Unit in police called Minerals police to specifically deal with fake gold dealers. The Unit is handed by President Museveni blue eyed lady called Jessica.
Two week ago, Police together with CMI deported five Congolese who were partnering with Ugandan tycoons and robbed billions of shillings from investors in fake gold scams.
Wanyoto is facing another robbery case before Anti-Corruption court. He is accused of robbing has another Korean businessmen at gunpoint.
Wanyoto is facing trial alongside exiled former police boss ACP Siraji Bakaleke, Samuel Nabeta Mulowooza the managing director Eye Power Engineering Company, Robert Munezero, Innocent Nuwagaba, Robert Ray Asiimwe, Junior Amanya, Babu Gastavas and Kenneth Zirintuusa.
